My wood door has decorative panels on the inside and is flat on the outside, so this set-up works for me. You could call Ideal Products and find out if they have a kit for raised door panels.
As for holding up, we’ve had to replace flaps on our previous Ideal 1 flap model about every 6 years with 2 dogs running in and out. I don’t know how the flaps on this Ruff-Weather door will hold up, but they should be fine, especially since we are down to one dog. The frame on the pet door we replaced was 18 years old and still in good shape

This one is medium pet door rock solid and I hardly notice any cold air even in -20 temperatures.
